Are you willing to clean up crap?
A Cowboy walked through the church and I saw mud and crap fall off his boot! WHAT? I looked around and no one cared! How can that be…I mean, we’re in church, shouldn’t it be cleaned up? Then right behind the cowboy comes his wife. She casually bends, picks the mud and crap up in her hand and keeps walking! REALLY! I mean, that was dirt, and who knows what kind of animal manure!
And Jesus whispers to me…”Just like she cleaned up after her husband she loves, I love you much more. Seeing her do this for her husband is what I’ve been doing for you, your entire life. I’ve gone before you and I’ve been behind you. I love you fiercely and will always be cleaning up your crap!”
Are you willing to learn about crap?
The cowboy pastor preached a message about cattle. Sick cattle that had snotty noses and runny butts. WHERE could he possibly be heading with this message? I looked around and no one was shocked at the graphic picture he was painting, in fact, some were even shaking their heads like they understood what he was talking about.
And Jesus whispers to me…”Just wait, you’ll learn.”
Are you willing to listen about crap?
The cowboy church we serve has a herd of goats. By my choice, the morning feeding has fallen on me. I have learned to love the goats and their morning routine. I start walking toward them and they run toward me, they jump on the fence in anticipation of their morning feed.
As I close the gate behind me after feeding, I notice I had walked through their dirt, dirt and goat crap stuck to my boots. Oh well, that’s life. As I stand at the fence watching the goats eat, I find myself looking for …you probably already guessed, snotty noses or runny butts…I was looking for any sick animal among the herd. And I heard God again, as He reminded me…”I watch over you, one of My herd, the same way you watch over the goats.”
Are you willing to listen, learn, clean-up and serve God, no matter how much crap is involved?
Ken and I prayed for seven years for God to use us wherever, whenever and however He chose. He is so faithful to us, we only want to give back. Then, when He whispered to me, then to my husband, His plan to send us to a cowboy church to serve, I have to admit, I wasn’t entirely sure I had it in me. To be honest, I still don’t, yet I am assured HE does.
So, this morning, I found myself cleaning up my floor here in our RV. I had worn my boots in from the goat pen and left a mess on the floor. As I was on my knees, bent to clean up the mud and crap I carried in, I heard His voice whisper… “Are you still willing to serve?”
Yes or No? Which choice will you make?
I can only answer for myself, and I only have one word, YES. I will continue to serve wherever, whenever and however He asks because crap happens everywhere. I’m not talking about animals anymore, I am talking about people.
People have messy lives, we all have crap happen in our lives over which we have no control, we are disappointed or angered, we get hurt, we get trampled upon, we are treated unfairly. Am I willing to reach out and into other’s lives, some of whom may be hurt and or have dirt stuck to them, to serve both them and God? Am I, are you, willing to wait, to learn and to listen to others, for the sole purpose of helping them become better disciples?
It doesn’t matter where we are, God has given us all the same choice…He asks all His children, “Will you serve? Wherever? Whenever? and However? Yes or No?
